At the Office of the Trust, above Canford Cliffs Public Library, we maintain a comprehensive library of books related to maritime matters relating to Poole Harbour. We hold the original Poole Harbour Commissioners’ records relating to the arrivals and sailings of vessels into Poole Harbour during the 19th and 20th centuries, their names, tonnage and cargo.
It is an extensive library of books and papers mostly focused on Poole and its harbour and the surrounding area.
But if you are interested in shipping, small boats, archaeology, boat building, boat yards, sailing, motor-boating, fishing, diving and many other marine activities then we may have what you are looking for, to help your research. If we don’t hold it, we will probably know where to find it.
We have access to possibly the largest private Poole based library of information on Poole, including over 6,000 images of the Harbour and Town, and a large number of papers and reference books.
Members and non members are welcome to come and browse the books and there is plenty of space (and help if you require it), to carry out research or just sit and read with a cup of tea or coffee available or drop in for a chat about your particular maritime interest.
We regret that we cannot loan books to non-members.
Except for the month of August, the Library and Trust premises at 6 Western Road are open each Thursday from 10 am to 12 noon or by appointment, at other times. To find us see directions and map on our “Contact” page.
